Sher-Neill: TOSR Pre-Alerts, Defenses and System Overview: TOSR= Transfer Oriented Symmetric Relay Basic System: Strong C. 1D,1H,1S limited x-fer style openings. Canape style. Over all of these we usually relay once a game force is established. (One hand describes his hand, and the other makes the cheapist bid for more information). On rare occasions we may stop in 4 of a minor in a game forcing auction when we lack stoppers for 3NT or extra strength. Also we show suits in a up the line fashion so we would show hearts before spades (as opener) even if we have 4 H and 6 S. The one exception is a hand with both minors may also have a major in it. After 1C-positive- we have the option of not relaying with a 3 suiter (4441, 5440, 5431) and 15-17 HCP and no stiff Ace or K. So if we relay, there is the implication that we do not have a minimum 3 suiter. Note: We may have more or less points than promised if we like or hate our hand. The given point count is only an indication. Pre-Alerts: 1C OPENING: 15+ HCP (seat 1/2) 17+ HCP (3/4). Any shape. Forcing. 1D OPENING: 10-14 HCP (seat ½) 11-16 HCP(3/4), 4+ H may have a longer side suit. Never 4432 or 4333 in seats ½. Not forcing. Responses: 1H artificial. 10+ HCP(8+ if PH). Only 10-11 (8-9) with a fit or with a great suit of his own. 1D-1H-1S artificial shows 10 to bad 12 HCP (11-bad 14 after ¾ seat opener). All other bids show max opener. 1D-1H-1S-2C=GF relay 1D-2H is a normal 1H-2H raise. Constructive. May be done on 3 cards. 1D-2S through 3D are all artifical distributional 4+ card raises, usually in the 8-10 HCP range. 1D-2D is mildly constructve but not forcing (6-11 HCP). All other bids are natural and 0-11 HCP and are not forcing (1NT is typically balanced with 2-3 H, opener is expected to bid a 5 card suit if he has one). Suggested Defense: 1D-x = 13-15 balanced, or big hand without 3+ spades. Partner's x's should be played the same way as you play over a 1NT overcall by your side. 1D-1H= takeout of H. 1H then a new suit guarantees 3+ S Higher bids as if 1H was opened (so 2H=michaels if you play that). 1D-P-1H- x=takeout of hearts 1NT=minors 1D-P-1S as if 1H-P-1S 1D-P-1NT as if 1H-P-1NT etc. 1H OPENING: 10-14 HCP (1/2), 11-16 HCP(3/4) 4+ S, 0-3 H may have a longer minor.
