Major suits openers: 5-card suits in 1st and 2nd, fairly aggressive, frequent good 4-card majors in 3rd and 4th with hands in the minimum range. Responses: 1N semi-forcing 2/1 game-forcing except rebid All jump-shifts are raises (see below), except for the cheapest (compressed jump-shifts) After a 2/1: Fast arrival a rebid of 2M is the "random" bid (does not promise 6) 2N does not promise extras a reverse does not promise extras a high reverse (3-level rebid) promises extras 3N = 15-17 jump rebid = solid suit (no likely losers opposite a stiff) After 1H-1N: 2S = strong raise of openers minor or good hand with both minors (after a 2H rebid) After 1H-1S-1N: 2-way-checkback Raises: 1M-2M: constructive, 3 trumps (with less, start with 1N) 1H-2N and 1S-3C: forcing raise Over 1H-2N: 3C = minimum, some shape (3D relay - you shouldn't relay with no slam interest) 3D = balanced (3H size ask) 3H,3S,3N = shortness, up the line, extras 4C,4D 4H = second suit, up the line After 1H-2N-3C-3D bids have the same meaning as direct bids over 2N , but weaker. After 1H-2N-3D-3H: 3S = extras, not max 3N,4C,4D = cue-bids, max 4H = dreck Over 1S-3C: same but 1 level higher 1H-3C and 1S-3D = mixed raise or 10-12 (or 16+) HCP and shortness or Bergen 3N. 1H-3D and 1S-3H = limit raise or 13-15 HCP + shortness double raise: preempt double jump-shift: fit bid (something like KJxxx Axxxx whn partner opens 1H)) 1M - 3N: to play, denies 3M or 4oM Minor suit openers: Fairly sound: with 4-4 in the minors generally open 1D Walsh after 1C opener. 1m - 1H - 1N DOES NOT deny 4 spades (use judgement) frequent 3-card raises of responder's major 2-way checkback after 1N rebid Wolff after 2N rebid inverted minors (1m-2m-2N nf) Strong JS. Splinters 2N response = invite Kokish after 1D-2C (2D = most hands with 5+D, 2H = 4441, any strength, 2S = gf club raise, 2N = weak NT, one-round force, 3C = nf club raise, 3D = good hand, solid D, 3M splinter, 3N 18-19, balanced) After opener reverses, Lebensohl applies; responder's simple rebid of his suit is a 1-round force. 1N: 15-17 4-way transfers. 3C = weak, both minors, 3D = force, both minors 3H = invite, both majors, 3S = slam try, both majors. If they double EVERYTHING OFF. If they bid (including 2C) everything off, Lebensohl applies. Neg X at 3-level only. 2C very strong: 2D wait, 2H double negative 2D, 2H, 2S: weak; Ogust, new suit force, 4C = RKC (even after Ogust response) Parking lot XX (sorta like McCabe: if they double, XX = getout in responders's suit; anything else is a raise). 2N: transfers 3S->3N after which a minor is a single-suited slam try, a major shows shortness and length in both minors. 3N: solid minor, no outside stoppers They overcall: negative doubles to 3D (higher card showing), all doubles in comp are takeout/card-showing unless we have an explicit or implied fit. All jumps are fit-showing. We overcall: 1N = like a takeout double (if they double, use OS-style runouts). X = 15+, generally balanced or length in opener's suit. Cue-bid = non-touching suits. Cheapest two jumps: Roman. Other jumps: intermediate vul, preemptive non-vul. 2N overcall: strong, unbalanced, promises the non-touching suit and another. After a simple overcall: new suit one-round force, cue-bid = L+, jump-cue (if available) = mixed raise. Jumps= fit-showing. 2N = natural, invite. Woolsey over their NT (but if they open a weak NT: double = 14+ balanced) lebensohl if we double a weak 2 Carding: UDCA; Primary signal is attitude. Later signals are often suit-preference Rare count signals. Smith echo (reverse by opening leader). A from AK except at 5-level or higher or alarm signal. 3rd and lowest vs. suits, attitude vs. NT. Other leads as on standard convention card. Other: Unusual vs. 2-suited (higher cue-bid = L+); Crash vs. big club. Style: I hardly ever make an outright psyche, but will not disdain an occasional tactical bid. Third hand preempts when non-vul are berserk (maybe even more so if righty has opened). Sound openers and overcalls. Aggressive balancing and prebalancing. Aggressive slam tries below game.
